Go out in downtown Phoenix every Friday night and especially on the first Friday of every month (even during the Summer – some like it hot!) from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm (many galleries and businesses are open later) to traverse the nation’s largest, self-guided art walk where you can tour more than 70 galleries, venues and art-related spaces to see a variety of artwork and enjoy the spirit and culture of the city as you mingle with thousands of other residents and visitors.
The city of Phoenix nor the Phoenix Art Museum run First Fridays. Through sponsorships, supporters and member participation, Artlink Phoenix, is able to facilitate the free shuttles, as well as provide the detailed map. How to get around?
Walk, bike or shuttle. Just be sure to not waste time waiting shuttles or buses. Plan it out if you are a nervous Nelly. Otherwise, walk around… drift and see where the night takes you. If you’d like to get from place-to-place on one of the free event shuttles, they launch from the Phoenix Art Museum or you can jump on at any of the stops on each route. Keep in mind that it is impossible to see everything in one night.
Where to start?
You can start anywhere but many first timers find it best to start at the Phoenix Art Museum and jump on a shuttle to get the lay of the land. Remember that it is impossible to see everything in one night.
Where to park?
There is on-street parking or parking garages throughout downtown, but be mindful of “no parking” signs. Do not park on dirt lots with or without signs. Sheriff Douche-Arpaio and his cronies like to make money with parking tickets. Note that there is free parking at the Phoenix Art Museum where a shuttle service launches. Also at the museum are volunteers to answer questions.
How to get a table on the art walk?
You can take place in one of the regulated street closure areas that allow guests to peruse a cohesive arena for multiple vendors.
How to get into a gallery to show your art?
Visit the spaces and see which ones might best fit your style and contact them directly about their submission policies.
